HEAD BARTENDER

Start Date:

Mid-late May 2019 (Flexible)

 

Job Description:

The Head Bartender will be responsible for working all major bar shifts during the week/weekend, training and on-boarding new FOH staff, stocking and tracking inventory, keeping staff on track with side work and cleaning, preparing bar and staff for events, working with FOH manager on bar schedule.

This is a full-time position; expectation is that the head bartender works Wednesday-Sunday.

Must be available to swap shifts or meet on off days when needed.

 

Hours:

Assume 30-60 minutes for prep work and side work before and after certain shifts. Shifts are subject to some flexibility depending on availability and depending on on-site events scheduled.

    • Wednesday 2pm-10pm
    • Thursday 2pm-10pm
    • Friday 4pm-10pm
    • Saturday 4pm-10pm
    • Sunday 11am-6pm

 

Duties:

    • Managing all bar prep work including, but not limited too: cutting fruit and other garnishes, juicing, making syrups and other mixers, cleaning, bar set up, restocking, marrying bottles, filling ice.
    • Inventory: Tracking all bar inventory, communicating to management when items need to be restocked.
    • Management: Train and oversee day-to-day FOH staff.
    • Mixology: Work with owner and head distiller to craft and mix unconventional, engaging and desirable cocktails.
    • Front of House: Interact with customers to educate them about craft cocktails and provide knowledge about Tenth Ward and our products. Represent Tenth Ward in a positive light and maintain professionalism behind the bar.
    • Sales: Reach sales goals in relation to cocktail and bottle sales.
    • Professional Development: Stay up to date with current industry standards and best practices, grow understanding of current industry trends and meet minimum of 40 hours required training per year by Tenth Ward.
    • Networking: Being actively involved in the local bar community and promoting our efforts on social media.

 

Qualifications:

    • 2 years of experience in the restaurant, bar or hospitality industry
    • Proficient in basic bartender duties
    • Innovation using creativity to build recipes
    • Ability to be quick and efficient during busy evenings
    • Experience with POS systems
    • Attention to detail supporting product quality controls and brand standard
    • Customer service skills and effective communication to support customer engagement and brand promotion

 

Work environment:

Candidate must be able to lift 50 lbs and be able to work on feet most of the day.

Must be at least 21 years of age.

FARMERS MARKETS & OFF-SITE EVENTS

Start Date:

Early May

 

Job Description:

The Farmers Market and Off-site Events position will be responsible for working all seasonal farmers markets and any events or festivals scheduled. Position will involve pouring tastings, selling bottles to go, engaging customers, representing the brand, and  setup and break down of our tent, table, display and bottle stock.

This is a part-time position. Expectation is that this person is available for almost all Saturday and Sunday mornings. There might also be the opportunity to pick up additional events on weeknight evenings.

Shifts can be covered by other staff in the event that this person may need off.

 

Hours:

6 hours minimum per week, 14 hours max, with the ability to pick up additional shifts as needed.

  • Farmers markets:
    • Silver Spring first Saturday of every month
    • Bethesda Central second Sunday of every month
    • Takoma Park third Sunday of every month
    • Waverly 4th Saturday of every month
  • Events:
    • Expect to work 1-3 events per month, schedule changes each month

 

Duties:

    • Providing spirit samples to customers
    • Representing the Tenth Ward brand
    • Making sales
    • Setting up displays
    • Mixing drinks at events
    • Driving to and from off-site events

 

Qualifications:

    • Some experience in either retail, sales or the restaurant, bar and hospitality industry
    • Customer service skills and effective communication to support customer engagement and brand promotion
    • Ability to be quick and efficient during busy shifts
    • Experience with POS systems
    • Experience handling cash transactions

 

Work environment:

Candidate must be able to lift 50 lbs and be able to work on feet. Must have an up to date smartphone that can be used for sales transactions and a reliable vehicle that can be used to travel to events.

Must be at least 21 years of age.

TASTINGS & SALES

Job Description:

The tastings and sales staff will be responsible for working all Friday evening liquor store tastings and Saturday tours and tasting shifts. This is a transitional position that will have the ability to pick up more shifts once our Cocktail Lab is open.  

This is a part-time position. Expectation is that this person is available for almost all Fridays evenings approximately 3-9 depending on the time of the scheduled tasting, travel and your setup and break down, Saturdays 12-8 and potentially some Sundays as well. There might also be the opportunity to pick up additional events on week nights and Sundays.

Shifts can be covered by other staff in the event that this person may need off.

 

Hours:

Approximately 12-15 hours per week with the potential for more starting in late June.

  • Friday: Liquor store tastings 3-9
  • Saturday: Tasting room sales 11:45-8

    • Conducting tours
    • Setting up displays
    • Opening and closing side work

 

Qualifications:

    • Some experience in either retail, sales or the restaurant, bar and hospitality industry
    • Customer service skills and effective communication to support customer engagement and brand promotion
    • Ability to be quick and efficient during busy shifts
    • Experience with POS systems
    • Public speaking skills
    • Experience handling cash transactions
