General Manager

Title: General Manager

Hours: 40/wk 

Supervisor: Owner, Tenth Ward

Description: The General Manager will be responsible for leading a team of bartenders, servers, offsite event staff and other general FOH employees. We are looking for a dedicated hard worker who is an excellent team leader, great with building relationships, organized and is passionate about their work and the success of Tenth Ward. This position involves operating out of two different locations (our cocktail bar and production facility), working weekends/evenings and working with the owner and management team to ensure the brand is well represented and sales continue to grow.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Staff Management
    • Management and oversight of all bar FOH staff, onsite and offsite
    • Assist offsite event staff with logistics and packing for events
    • Drafting and publishing weekly schedule
    • Conduct mid-year and annual reviews for direct reports
    • Hold FOH staff accountable to the Tenth Ward standard
    • Ensure FOH staff are completing sidework and required tasks
    • Assist staff and cover shifts when needed
    • Recruiting, onboarding and training new hires
    • Maintaining internal staff training
    • Keeping staff morale high
  • Administrative
    • Run payroll on a bi-weekly basis
    • Submit inventory reports 
    • Manage targets and departmental goals
    • Respond to email inquiries
  • Leadership and Oversight
    • Represent FOH department in weekly team meetings
    • Be present for all major events and releases
    • Work closely with management team members to schedule staff when needed by specific departments
  • Facility Supervision
    • Weekly, monthly cocktail ingredient and bottle inventory
    • Maintain systems- HVAC, fans, speakers, electric, lights
    • Communicate with landlord when needed
    • Check in with customers as needed during busy bar hours
    • Maintaining cleanliness and organization of the cocktail bar

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 4 years restaurant, bar or brewery/distillery/winery management experience
  • Sales and customer service experience encouraged 
  • Knowledge of spirits, bartending and/or mixology is a plus
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail, stay on task and work efficiently 

Requirements:

  • Must be 21 or older
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs 
  • A Car to drive between location is necessary 
  • Available to work evenings and weekends

Assistant Distiller

Responsibilities:

The Assistant Distiller is responsible for the assisting in the production of our current core spirits, seasonal and limited releases, and canned cocktails. 

Tenth Ward operates a 1,000L pot still and 1,000 gallon mash tun. We are in the process of purchasing more fermenters to increase our whiskey production and are on track to purchase an additional pot still dedicated just for whiskey.

This is a full-time position. Expectation is that the distiller is available from 12-8 M-F, occasionally earlier in the day and occasional weekends to overlap and tag off with the Head Distiller. Must be available to support occasional evening and weekend events when needed.

 

Duties:

Distillation of spirits including but not limited to: Weekly status updates with supervisor, brewing, still operation, proofing, bottling & labeling, and sanitation of equipment and production space.

Reporting: Take inventory. Maintaining accurate operation logs.

Front of House: Available for specific events to provide knowledge about product, and about company history.

Professional Development: Stay up to date with current industry standards and best practices, grow understanding of current industry trends.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in the distilling and/or brewing industry
  • Proficient in running basic distillation procedures
  • Innovation using creativity to build recipes
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Familiar with basic troubleshooting for operation equipment
  • Attention to detail supporting product quality controls and brand standard
  • Customer service skills and effective communication to support customer engagement and brand promotion

 

Work environment:

Candidate must be able to lift 50 lbs on a consistent basis, with weight up to 75 lbs occasionally. May involve exposure to cold, hot and humidity. Frequently used equipment is Forklift.

Must be at least 21 years of age.

Saturday Barback

Duties:

  • Filling ice
  • Stocking juices & syrups/prepping garnishes, including:
  • Slicing lemons, oranges and jalapenos
  • Grabbing extra spirits/juices from back
  • If slow
  • Polishing glassware
  • Stamping bags
  • Wiping down and cleaning shelves
  • Taking out trash
  • Changing kegs
  • Checking to make sure bathrooms are clean and stocked
  • Busing tables/wiping off tables/moving tables back where they belong
  • Ringing customers out
  • Taking bottle orders
  • Stocking bottle inventory behind bar
  • Keeping both bar stations organized and stocked- stocked with 3 shakers, strainers, spoons, etc.
  • Washing dirty dishes/putting clean dishes away
  • Greeting customers – giving out water if bartender is busy
  • Assisting with delivering drinks
  • Assisting bartender(s) with whatever they need
  • Breaking down bar, washing bar mats and completing all designated side work for closing

Work environment:

Candidate must be over 21 years of age, able to lift 50 lbs and be able to work on feet most of the day.
