Tenth Ward Bottle Club: Kicking Off 2021 with Coffee Liqueur

Written by Amanda Boroughs, Marketing & Events Manager, Tenth Ward Distilling Company

Tenth Ward Bottle Club members, rejoice! Our first Bottle Club release of the year is a delicious, local-coffee infused Coffee Liqueur. Keep reading to learn more about this special spirit.

The year 2020 brought four very unique Bottle Club releases

We started the year with Barreled Caraway, a barrel-aged variation of our Caraway Rye. Made with a mash bill of malted barley, malted rye, and caraway seeds and aged in used bourbon barrels and finished in toasted wine barrels.

We followed that up on Q2 with the ever-popular Conservation Cordial, a Chesapeake watershed-inspired spirit infused with invasive (yet edible) species including Japanese honeysuckle and white mulberry.

Our signature Sloe Gin came third, which was our non-traditional approach on a traditional Sloe Gin. It was infused with sloes, hawthorn berries and a blend of white and demerara sugar.

Last but certainly not least was our Spiced Whiskey. This was probably our most popular Club release of the year. A traditional Maryland style rye that we aged it in brand new No. 4 charred American White Oak barrels, then infused with cloves, allspice, candied orange peel, fresh d’anjou pears, vanilla beans, and cardamom pods and then lightly sweetened with demerara sugar. After releasing our 2020 Bottle Club portfolio, we knew 2021 had to (somehow) top these amazing flavors. Now, I won’t say that 2021 will be better than 2020 (because I’m biased and I love all of our spirits equally), but we’ve come pretty damn close. What I can say is this: We’ve gotten weirder and funkier with our old age.

Tenth Ward Coffee Liqueur

To create our Coffee Liqueur we started out by distilling rum from 100% Grade A molasses. We source all of our molasses from the Domino Sugar Company in Baltimore, Maryland. We then took that rum base and infused it with local espresso roast coffee from Dublin Roasters, which is based right here in Frederick. Dublin Roasters offers more than 80 varieties of delicious coffee. And they roast their coffee in-house! In fact – this particular batch of espresso was roasted 10 minutes before it went into the rum. So when we were brainstorming ingredients for our first ever coffee liqueur, we knew we had to incorporate Dublin Roasters. We also included other ingredients like chipotle pepper, chicory root, hazelnut, lime peel, orris root, bananas and then sweetened it with molasses.

It Pays to be a Club Member

Bottle Club members really do have it made. Each quarter they get a special invitation to pickup a bottle that’s made specially for them. Regular customers can’t get their hands on these special releases. They can’t even try a taste of it at the Cocktail Lab! Each quarter we also put a special Bottle Club member-only cocktail on the menu that, you guessed it, only Bottle Club members can enjoy.

In addition to these quarterly exclusive releases, Club members get first dibs on any other spirit release. And these can be any of our regular spirits, like our year-round or seasonal liqueurs, or even our one-time-only spirits that are released once and then gone forever (remember last year’s Attabrandy?).

Bottle Club member-only cocktail: “Not Your Everyday Latte”

Last but not least, they get special invites to free Club member events each quarter. Last quarter we featured an exclusive distillery tour for our members and their guests to attend with our Head Distiller at our OG stillhouse. They got to see where it all began and where it’s all made, all with special direction from our super knowledgeable Head Distiller Mark.

Now What?

If you’re not a Bottle Club member, sign up today here. Make sure to follow all the prompts: Enter your contact information and credit card information so we can easily bill you each quarter.
